BACKLIGHT is photography and art is young and many sided is openminded and international is between underground and mainstream is wild and sensitive is coming and new is professional and eventful is today, tomorrow and only in Tampere.	In the bright light of the mainstream, fine nuances of cultural identity and plurality disappear.The reality of global media culture and the levelling of the culture-industry drowns out all the delicate with a shrieking cry of short-lived actuality. The complicated plexus of daily life pales into insignificance and passes out of perception and memory. The eye of the camera determines what exists.	Backlight´s emphasis is against mainstream and opens a remarkable sequence of international exhibitions including classic photography, installation, sculpture, collage and projection.
Our call for submissions to the 5th Triennale was noted all over Europe and was published in art and photography journals.	As a result we had more than 80 submissions from 23 European countries, from museums, galleries, art-schools and free-lance artists. Remarkable feedback, we believe.
