Miklos Gaál & Juha Nenonen

Based on a true story - photographs

TR1, Rautahalli (Väinö Linnan aukio 13) 13.5.-11.6.2006

Photographic Centre Nykyaika presents in TR1 space in Tampere, Finlayson area an exhibition of two photographers. Based on a true story photo exhibition includes works of Miklos Gaál and Juha Nenonen from past few years. Both Gaál and Nenonen work independently, but they deal with same kind of themes. The starting point for this opening exhibition has been to combine the works of the two artists that discuss with each other. Distant observation and focusing on trivial details pass the subject matter is very common way to photograph for both artists. The photographers are also linked by the fact that for both it is characteristic not use photograph in traditional way of repeating and modifying the same subject matter into making a series.

Miklos Gaál (b. 1974 Espoo) often examines in his photographs our conceptions of every day life. Gaál combines uniquely elements that are very characteristic to photographs: the photos are combinations of chosen subject matters, photographic unsharpness, visual abundance and stopping the moment.

In the works of Juha Nenosen (b. 1967 Tampere) the world often appears as small flashes, theatre like scenes that feel to be from somewhere on border between common and specific. He photographs both “straight” and staged pictures of still life, sceneries, people and tiny events.

Miklos Gaál and Juha Nenonen have both graduated from the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, department of photography (2004 and 2001). They both live and work in Helsinki.
