What I think about photography

Accepting the past, the present and mortality as they are, one will get closer to communicating with reality itself.

If one regarded mortality as a precondition for new life rather than an unwelcome topic to discuss, one might develop a better sense of what is meaningful – and lead one’s life accordingly. Yet, since different alternatives are often valued in terms of money and one is striving for maximum profit, one loses sight of the ideal because it cannot be measured.

Right and honest are sisters to each other – and they are opinions of an individual. If there was only one form of right and only one form of honesty, world would be­ stuffed with honest people who all are proper. And people would be nodding their heads and all would be of one mind. This of course, is not the way it is.

Accepting the past, the present and mortality as they are, one will get closer to communicating with reality itself.

Photography gives me a possibility to organise reality; by means of a picture.

Mitä minä ajattelen valokuvasta

Pyrkimällä rehellisyyteen menneen, nykyisyyden ja kuolevaisuuden kanssa, keskustelee todellisuuden kanssa.

Jos ihminen ottaisi huomioon kuolevaisuuden luonnollisena osana elämää, ei ainoastaan sivuutettavana puheenaiheena, ihmisellä olisi paremmat mahdollisuudet toimia sen mukaisesti, mikä hänestä tuntuu oikealta – tai mielekkäältä ylipäänsä. Kuitenkin, maksimaalista voittoa tavoiteltaessa vaihtoehdon sijaan puhutaan vaihtoehtoiskustannuksista; aineetonta ei tunneta ja tunnusteta, sillä sitä ei voi laskea.

Oikea ja rehellinen ovat sisaria – ja yksilön näkökulmia. Jos olisi vain yksi muoto rehellisyydestä ja olisi yksi muoto oikeasta, maailma pursuaisi oikeaa ja rehellistä (sillä rehellisyyden päämäärä on kaikilla sama: rehellisyys), ja kaikki nyökyttelisivät päätään ja olisivat yhtä mieltä. Näin ei tietenkään ole.

Pyrkimällä rehellisyyteen menneen, nykyisyyden ja kuolevaisuuden kanssa, keskustelee todellisuuden kanssa.

Valokuvalla voin järjestellä todellisuutta silmäyksiin; kuvan keinoin, sen lausein ja virkkein.
