”View on truth” follows the birth of Jukka Male’s documentary photographs and their transition into the world of media and art. Trough Male’s work we reflect more widely on the nature of documentary itself.

My own experience in the field of documentary photographs and –films was my biggest motive to start working on this documentary. As a photographer and a director I have had to ponder on the moment the camera and reality meet.I want to make visible that strange process, when life transforms into pictures. The film contemplates on the nature of documentary ja comes to the conclusion that it can only be an illusion about reality. However, it does not deny the necessity and meaning of documentaries.

Kuvitelma totuudesta seuraa Jukka Malen dokumenttivalokuvien syntyhetkiä ja niiden siirtymistä media- ja taidemaailmaan. Malen työskentelyn kautta pohditaan dokumenttikuvan olemusta laajemminkin.

Oma kokemukseni dokumenttivalokuvan ja -elokuvan parissa oli suurin motiivini lähteä tekemään tätä dokumenttia. Kuvaajana ja ohjaajana olen joutunut miettimään todellisuuden ja kameran kohtaamisen hetkeä. Haluan tehdä näkyväksi tuon kummallisen prosessin, jossa elämä muuttuu kuviksi. Elokuva pohtii dokumentin olemusta ja päätyy siihen, että se voi olla vain kuvitelma totuudesta. Se ei kuitenkaan kiistä dokumenttien tarpeellisuutta ja merkitystä.
