Photographic Centre Nykyaika opens year 2006 with a large Finnish art photography exhibition in Tampere, TR1, Rautahalli (Väinö Linnan Aukio 13).

Ten photo artists represent in Nousu / Rising -exhibition different kinds of situations of growth and pain. Healing and coping with these situations demand rising above the situation.

Rising exhibition includes for instance Hartti Ahola (b. 1945), who has photographed youngsters that moved in a family house; Milja Laurila (b. 1982), who has, through photographing, build her missing memories from the time before her father's death; Susanna Majuri (b. 1978), who pictures unknown people in strange places; and Kai Widell (b. 1977), who has focused on violations of human rights in Chile.

Finnish photographers were interested in participating in Backlight triennial more than ever before. Almost hundred Finnish photographers applied for Untouchable Things -exhibition at Museum Centre Vapriikki. Based on Backlight's big success among photographers, the board of Nykyaika decided to organize fifth main exhibition of Finnish applications.

Thematically constructed Rising exhibition ends the series of Backlight 05 exhibitions in Tampere. Rising name tells also about the rise of Finnish art photography and of Backlight.
